Walking
and Cycling
Develop safe integrated footpaths and cycle
paths in and around Billingshurst and connections
to the surrounding villages and long distance
paths crossing the area. Develop other leisure
facilities around the area such as Picnic sites.
· Improve Cycle network and provide
links to neighbouring villages
· Improve safety of footpaths and
cycle paths in the village
· Develop “Walking Bus” to reduce
school time congestion
· Improve footpath access to Adversane
and Five Oaks
· Connect Billingshurst to the Sussex
Way and South Downs way
· Develop area to Picnic on Recreation
grounds
· Provide secure cycle storage facilities
across village
Rail and
Bus Services
"Those who have followed the "Healthcheck"
progress will be aware that the research stage
is at an end and we now start the project implementation
phase and need to establish a small group prepared
to work on one or more six projects. In brief
these are :
1) Provision of a local transport service
based on Billingshurst but serving all local
villages and communities.
2) Improve the appearance of the area around
the Station.
3) Improve parking in the area of the Station.
4) Review and improve bus and rail links where
possible.
5) Provide ramps to ease access to both bus
and train.
6) Review the prospects for improving access
and safety in the area of the level
crossing.
Additonally it may be possible to add further
projects to the list if appropriate"

Village
and Visitors
To create an information centre that would dispense
information on the community and its surrounding
area. Provide for one or two strategic map boards
of the community and its surrounds with items
of interest or importance clearly marked with
location guidance. To provide finger pointers
and other markers and guidance regarding the
community and it’s surrounding area.
· Information centre on local facilities.

· Improved road signs
· Transport time tables
· Develop Internet based information
for visitors and residents

Billingshurst
Centre
To enhance the centre part of Billingshurst
to make it more attractive to residents, visitors
and traders so as to encourage trade and the
social well being of the community at large.
A place one wants to visit and shop
· Redesign centre, Make more pedestrian
friendly
· Make more inviting for shoppers
and promote greater range of shops
· Improve quality and quantity of
parking and access between car parks
· Widen pavements on approaches
· Provide cycle storage facilities
· Improve road access
· Provide more seating
· Develop landscaping in area
· Improve road safety and reduce traffic

Sports &
Recreation
Completion of the recreation area outside of
the bypass, with fishing lake, trim-trail, and
picnic facilities. The building of a sports
pavillion to release space to allow the swimming
pool to be built and be in use as soon as possible,and
also to ensure the surrounding area is developed
as a park.
· Completion of recreation land and
sports leisure facilities on the land outside
of the bypass
· Development of Swimming pool on
the Weald / Football pitch site in Station
Road
· Development of a park on remaining
Cricket and Football pitch space
· Provide better access to the bowling
club

Care of
the young and elderly and disadvantaged
Create a “drop in centre” for the elderly during
the day and the young in the evenings which
caters for the needs of the disabled.

Safety and
security in the community
Create an environment where crime, vandalism
are bad behavior are
· Develop CCTV solutions for problem
areas
· Promote neighbourhood watch schemes
· Improve “intelligence gathering”
on troublemakers
· Focus on “hard core” troublemakers
· Make decision on community Warden
schemes
